Chapter 2. Acylation

Chapter Summary: Acylation is a common method for the derivatisation of polar compounds and is sometimes used as an alternative to silylation. Acylation also reduces the polarity of hydroxyl, thiol, amine and amide groups and improves volatility, chromatographic mobility (especially in GC and GC/MS) and chemical stability by introducing acyl protective groups.
